Most of you know the talented & witty Grace Coddington from "The September Issue" or her photographs from Vogue US. When I heard that she will write a Memoir about I year ago I preordered the book immediately. I was anxious to read this book.
Grace describes her childhood, her early career as a model, working with
world-class photographers as David Bailey and Norman Parkinson, before
she stepped behind the camera to become a fashion editor at British Vogue in the late 1960s. And yes, you also can read about things concerning the American Vogue. And yes, of course Anna Wintour gets mentioned.
After reading her memoir I must I am a little bit disappointed- well yes, she had an amazing life, traveled a lot & met very important people. But she writes about it so boringly, with no deep insights, one yearns for more but there never is. There's no introspection, no intelligent insight into why fashion matters, the interesting facts in her life are dealt with in a sentence or two.
Nonetheless the charming drawings that populate some pages in this book are amazing. I guess she is more an artist than a writer....
